What's Up at WRLG
FARM BLOG
FROM THE FARMERS POINT OF VIEW
It was starting to look and feel like spring....till the cold wind came through Sunday night and snow started falling this afternoon.
At least during the warmer weather I did get the pear trees in the front yard pruned and I pruned some of the overgrowth of the 2 pear trees in the back pasture pruned as well. But they still need some more work done, but it requires a ladder and my lopping shears. I haven't pruned the very old Bosc pear tree on the other side of the driveway as it has so many issues....I am afraid I would prune it too severely and kill it. But I should at least remove any dead branches. I am trying to get my head around a new front yard garden design, moving the beds away from the front of the house and extending the landscape fabric and mulch to the new pear trees. This will give me less lawn to mow....which is a plus. Much of my former front lawn is wild flowers , but I have a patch where there are wild black raspberries, small currant bushes and Cornelian cherry bushes. Eventually I want to have a small blueberry patch as well. But that requires more soil preparation due to the acid loving nature of the blueberries. So on we go....hopefully the snow will leave quickly...so we can get back to spring activities!
