FROM THE FARMERS POINT OF VIEW
Like any good Yankee you ignore the weather and just add another layer. But the wind seemed to have blown for at least 2 weeks without a break. I couldn't tell if the wind was blowing or the forced hot air was on. Sometimes the metal roof sounded like it was planning to come off the house. But I knew that wouldn't happen, but it did sound scary.
We have had a little snow but much more cold and I think the chickens are tired of ice skating on their water bowls. Unfortunately I don't have electricity out to the coops unlike in the barn where the stock tanks have heaters. On the coldest day at the beginning of January our first lamb was born. I came down to the barn in the morning to find his mother Bandit no longer pregnant and a very dry, quiet and full of milk black ram lamb. He was a very heavy lamb, but it was so cold that my electronic scale wouldn't work. I suspect he was over 8 lbs if not 10 lbs. The ram lambs name is Outlaw ,so he and his mother spent 2 days in a lambing pen isolated from the rest of the flock. This helps me to weigh, give him selenium, a boost of colostrum and to worm his mother while she is still captive and not as hard to catch. No other lambs yet.......
