May and black flies have arrived

May has been somewhat fickle with sunny warm days, then snow and wind. But we did have a couple of days of rain, which we need. My pear trees on the north side of the house are blooming but not much action from my big Bosc pear tree on the south side of the house. I have 3 new pear trees that I will plant this week along with 3 blackberry bushes and 25 strawberries plants. 
Looking in the freezer I found Black currant syrup that needed to be bottled. But first I needed to strain it through a jelly bag to get rid of the seeds. So tomorrow I will be doing a bit of canning. 
I have weighed 2 of the 4 bottle lambs and they need to be weaned as they are over 25 lbs. I still need to catch the smaller two lambs and get them in the sling to weigh them. The sling is the problem  as it is too big for the smaller lambs but the small lamb sling I have is too small. The lambs don't like being held up in the air in the larger sling, they tend to wiggle trying to escape. 
Working outside is OK if the wind is blowing, but without the wind the black flies are up your nose and in your eyes, even with repellent on. So I need to use a bug net, which gets in the way and is hard to see out of . But wearing it makes yard work a bit less uncomfortable.
